Like Friends repeats on TV and Pharrell songs on the radio, superhero flicks are now a permanent feature of the world of cinema. But the phenomena hasn't snuck up on us overnight, as the following infographic attests.

Compiled by the cape-loving designer Dave Columbus, this extensive graphic charts the points at which superheroes have transitioned from their comics to the screen - be it with a camp TV adaptation or budget-blowing blockbuster.
