Smashing Nike Swoosh Portraits

Just do it? We’ve got news for you, Nike: Andy Gellenberg just did it.

For some time now the company’s iconic swoosh logo has been front and centre for major winning putts, Wimbledon-clinching aces and NBA Championship winning dunks, embodied by the surplus of A-list athletes who wear the gear.

Only now German illustrator Gellenberg has turned this relationship into something truly beautiful, creating portraits of top Nike stars using that famous logo first sketched in 1971 by Portland State University student Carolyn Davidson, and the end result is superb.

And if you’re wondering what Nike paid Davidson for the original design? That was $35, later followed up with a golden Swoosh ring with an embedded diamond and an undisclosed amount of Nike shares.

Now if only someone can design a Nike poster which tells us how we’re supposed to pronounce it...

Check out more of Gellenberg's work over at Behance.
