Reddit Is In Revolt And Turning Itself Off

reddit.jpg

Reddit is revolting. The mysteriously brilliant online community that effectively holds the internet together is officially in chaos.

The digital riots kicked off following the news that Reddit’s director of communications Victoria Taylor, the lady responsible for the sites famous Ask Me Anything sessions, was let go by the company.

Known by Victoria or /u/chooter by the community, she was responsible for running the Q&A sessions with the likes of Barack Obama, Channing Tatum and Julian Assange, amongst others.

In reaction to her alleged dismissal, many of the site's most popular subreddits have been locked down and made private, with many users posting messages reflecting the situation in place of the usual content streams.

/r/movies posted:

Due to an unexpected Reddit administrative personnel change /r/science is temporarily private so that we can resolve the situation, our apologizes for any disruption this may cause.

A list of the pages that are currently closed can be found here, with no confirmation of when they might be back online.

Reddit, the "front page of the internet", is famed for being quick off the mark with emerging trends, able to arrange acts of mass kindness, defeat trolls and create genuinely fantastic things. It’s a truly brilliant place, so when the community of Reddit decides to make a stand against something it’s generally worth taking note.

Here’s hoping it all gets sorted again soon.
