The heart-stopping moment that an off duty cop pulled a man to safety on the Madrid Metro has been captured on camera.

The stunning footage below shows how a drunk passenger slips from the platform at Puerta del Angel station. Helpless and injured he is barely able to move and passengers on the adjacent platform frantically try to warn an approaching train driver.

Seconds before tragedy a policeman removes his coat, leaps onto the tracks and drags the stranded man away from the train, in the nick of time.
