Kony 2012 becomes most viral video ever

Campaign tops 100 million in six days

Kony 2012 becomes most viral video ever

Anyone who's used the internet for any reason in the past week will be aware of Joseph Kony's name.

A spectacularly successful campaign by the non-profit organisation Invisible Children sought to give the Ugandan war criminal a higher profile, in the hope that it might increase US involvement in his capture. Since the release of the video, Kony has trended on Twitter, gained the support of celebrities (including Rihanna and Oprah) and amassed an astonishing amount of views.

In fact, the video has become the most "viral" video of all time, with the campaign getting over 100 million views in just a week. The 30 minute mini-documentary has garnered 75.8 million views itself while video responses and subtitled versions have pushed the total to 112 million.

This makes it the fastest campaign to get to 100 million, beating out videos from Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Susan Boyle.
