Interactive map shows best and worst London tube commutes

Living in London is all about sacrifice.

Want a short, smooth commute into the city but don’t want to live in an area where monthly rents set you back megabucks? You’re sleeping in a wardrobe. Want to rent a room that you can actually walk around without bruising your shins? You’re going to spend the best part of your rush hour underneath the armpit of a man reading the Financial Times.

Well now we know the best: after discovering that 90 per cent of Londoners believe the local tube station is an important factor in deciding where to live, Easyroommate conducted another poll and now have an interactive map, showing the best and worst commuter journeys according to those poor souls that have to undertake them.

Clicking on each tube station spot – blue means good commuter spot, red means bad – will drop down to reveal the ranking of the station, as well as the line it runs on, and, in case you’re in the market for a move, the average rent too.

Topping the chart in first and second place respectively were North Ealing (average rent £500pm) and Kenton (£456pm), which were trailed in third place by Rotherhithe (£669pm) – an overground stop no less. Meanwhile, filling out the list of shame are Dalton Junction, Queensbury and Kensal Rise, the latter finishing rock bottom out of all possible 297 stations.

It seems the more central you rent, the worse your local station becomes for access and wait times. In non-related news, a bear was found in the woods defecating into a holy man’s hat, who we believe was in the Vatican at the time. OK, so nothing new there – but we think there may be a few arched eyebrows over the fact that increasingly busy South London stations such as Clapham South (32nd) and Brixton (70th) find themselves in nosebleed territory.

For the rest of the picks, and to see your own stop, have a play with the map below.
