There's a certain hierarchy of bikes that all cyclists will be familiar with. As you approach a red light, you begin to weigh up your cycle credentials against those lined up at the junction: The casual, steel frame commuters will hang further back, with the lycra brigade further up the pecking order. Specialized and McLaren have created a bike that will see all other cyclists will move over and bow down to.

The US bike manufacturer has teamed up with the British sportscar maker to create the cycling equivalent of a hypercar. This gorgeous chunk of polished carbon fibre is the S-Works McLaren Tarmac - a £11,655 sportsbike of your dreams.

Building on the nimble Specialized S-Works Tarmac frame, the McLaren sponsored_longform bike employs a new carbon fibre layup - shaving the bike's weight down by 10 percent. The gorgeous black and orange paint finish is even applied at the McLaren Special Operations Center in Woking - the same the same location where the McLaren P1 supercar is painted.

Only 250 models of the bike are set to be built, with each unit built to fit its owner following a consultation described as a 'Body Geometry Fit'. Head over to the Specialized site if you're fortunate enough to be able to afford one - best not leave it propped up outside the shops when you pop in for a pint of milk.
