Buying a gift for your mum is usually a gratifying experience. She's easily pleased with any kitchen implement and makes you fully aware of how appreciative she is.

Buying a gift for your dad is usually the exact opposite. You'll end up getting him something he secretly bought the day before and he'll make no attempt to hide the fact that he's throwing your gift directly in the fireplace.
