Holographic Singer Performs On Letterman

hOLO.jpg

The bespectacled comic genius might be retiring from TV soon, but that hasn't stopped David Letterman from breaking new ground in the medium.

Just months after indie band Future Islands wowed audiences and near broke social media with a refreshingly raw performance on the show, written about here, last night saw Japanese pop star Hatsune Miku drop by the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York.

So what’s weird about that, you might well ask. Let us fill you in: she's a ‘vocaloid’, or hologram to you and us, and a hologram which has supported Lady Gaga on tour.

She's not the only one. Like electronic, pelvic-thrusting versions of Lazarus, some of our most beloved stars have recently been digitally resurrected for a host of live concerts. However, until now we haven't seen this sort of witchcraft on TV.

In the disbelieving video, below, you can see Miku play alongside a live band, made even more bizarre by Letterman walking over to do his usual ‘thanks to the act and goodnight’ shtick as the notably enthused audience shout the roof off, and seems to be genuinely won over by the whole spectacle. There’s even a little wave between the pair.

Now we just wait for the announcement of a holographic super group between Tupac, Michael Jackson and Miku very soon.
