For most of us, watching Twister on Blu-ray and wishing we were rampaging through cornfields with Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton remains the closest we’ll ever get to the eye of the storm.
It takes a certain breed of maverick to call themselves a ‘storm chaser’, to go on the hunt for swirling tornadoes and put themselves at the mercy of Mother Nature – like US photographer Mike Hollingshead.
Supercell storms, regular storms, rip-roaring tornadoes, rolling thunder – you name it and he’s shot it. Well now he’s captured the quiet majesty of these fearsome weather phenomena with a series of captivating GIFs sure to have you spellbound.
There’s a real intrinsic beauty to the atmosphere surrounding them, a muted menace, the clouds moving around like a cut-scene from a David Lynch film. Truly spectacular.
Anyone with a barn and cattle may just disagree.
