The Daily Mash and the BBC are teaming up to make a new satirical news show

The Daily Mash, the most popular comedy website in the UK is to launch a satirical series on BBC2. The show will be presented by the up-and-coming stand-up comic Nish Kumar, and has been described as an “up-to-the-minute, satirical news show” – the latest attempt to create a UK version of late-night American staples like The Daily Show

The show, which doesn’t yet have an air date, and which is working under the tentative title The Mash Report will be written in part by the team behind the spoof newspaper website with which it shares a name.

When they put the pilot together earlier this year, producers promised a satirical talkshow recorded live that would “analyse the week’s events, receive correspondents and go live to the news desk, where our anchors will deliver spoof headlines, and occasionally throw to reporters ‘at the scene’.”

The Daily Mash was founded in 2007 by Neil Rafferty and Paul Stokes, one a Sunday Times business correspondent and the other the business editor of the Scotsman. It is occasionally funny.
