Escaping a burning building in China just became faster, and more fun!

A slide has been installed in a residential block in Shanghai, for just this purpose. The stainless steel chute has been attached to the banister of the existing stairs and can be deployed at the press of a button.

The idea is that in an emergency the slide would be deployed and people would use it to exit the building quickly rather than using the stairs. According to inventor Zhou Miaorong people using the slide could escape from a 5-floor building in 14 seconds.
