Crazy Chinese Sculpture Exhibition

Where else would you find people impaled on a suspended tree?

Crazy Chinese Sculpture Exhibition

If, like us, the limit of your artistic ability at school was trying, and failing, to make a papier mache head, then you have to have respect for the world of sculpture, where enormous eye-catching installations seem to outdo each other with each passing year.

And this new city-wide international sculpture exhibition in Datong, northern China’s Shanxi province, is no exception.

Sculptures dotted around the city include an, ahem, obese woman clinging onto the city wall, a giant red smiling boy, a somewhat frightening fly preying on a baby and hundreds of hands each holding mobile phones.

In total 330 sculptures by 88 artists from nine countries have gone on display as part of the exhibition, entitled ‘Enlightenment’, and we've picked some of the best images above, and below.
