Your modern day, perfectly designed stadiums with corporate hospitality and catering facilities above and beyond the ability to microwave a pie to boiling point are all well and good, but there was something beautiful about the unique, often ramshackle old grounds that sprung up around the country as football took hold among the masses.

Who can forget Shrewsbury's famous Gay Meadow, where a lone coracle would patrol the adjacent River Severn during matches collecting stray balls? Or the remarkable slope and tightly-packed atmosphere of Barnet's Underhill?

Graphic designers Dorothy have not forgotten though, and have created this fantastic set of four classic old football stadiums: Arsenal's Highbury, Manchester City's Maine Road, Sunderland's Roker Park and the old Wembley Stadium, which witnessed a thing or two in its time.

Take a look at them below (click to see larger images) and you can buy them from the Dorothy shop for £25 or £35 (small and large). Invest in one and let the legend live on.

Bonus quiz question: which football league team still plays at a ground called Highbury? No Googling. Click here to find see if you're right.
