Artist Turns Coca-Cola Into Water

Here's one ludicrous glass of water that's beyond a coke.

Dutch artist Helmut Smits has decided to reverse engineer a bottle of Coca-Cola via his new installation.

Wryly titled The Real Thing, Smits' contraption boils a bottle of the black stuff and extracts the vapour, returning it to the most natural liquid of all.

Originally conceived in 2006, Smits cola-borated (sorry) with the University of Amsterdam's Synthetic Organic Chemistry Group and masters student Martien Würdemann to make his distiller a reality in time for this year's Dutch Design Week.

Pity the glass of water is only room temperature. Now, if he can just work out how to turn Jack Daniel's into ice cubes...
