An insane spinning skyscraper is being built in Dubai
21 February 2017

We get it Dubai, you need to have the first and best of everything. Tallest building in the world, man-made atlas-shaped islands and the world’s biggest indoor theme park are a pretty good resume, but now the city will have the first rotating skyscraper.

David Fischer of Dynamic Architecture has designed a skyscraper that would include "apartments that can rotate 360 degrees, moving independently through voice-activated command controls that allow you to adjust the speed or stop the movement."

Seriously, you can just say speed one or speed two to activate the movement of your entire flat. You can schedule it to follow the sun so you have direct sunlight for as long as it’s available. You can change your view when you get bored of looking at the same thing.

Each level will be constructed off-site and then attached to the building’s stationary core (which also has a lift to get to all the levels) through detachable valves. Kind of like how jets refuel in mid air.

Sure it will cost you $30million per unit, but it won’t cost the environment anything. Between each level, there will be enough wind turbines to generate power for the entire building and its neighbours.

Fischer first shared the concept for the rotating tower in 2008, but the proposal was canceled and brought back on several times in the last few years. Now the firm is planning for a 2020 opening date, but has yet to confirm when construction will start.
