Music was so simple for so long. A bit of blues and a bit of boogie woogie. Then along came rock & roll - and it spawned a monster.

Before long, genres were dividing into subgenres, with ever more ridiculous and convoluted names. And let's not even get started on dance music.

Luckily, the good people at dailyinfographic.com have created this brilliant visual to enable you to navigate your way through the murky waters of every different type of rock in the last 100 years.

Who's up for a bit of death doom?
