It's Friday and normally that would mean new movies in the cinema. It hasn't this last month of course, because everyone is afraid of releasing anything vaguely near The Dark Knight. Was all that psychotic laughter and darkness just too much for you? Relief is on hand then, thanks to a fantastic trio of very silly comedies from Sony Pictures winging their way to our shores over the next month, and we preview them below to wet your comedy tastebuds.
You Don't Mess With The Zohan
True, Adam Sandler hasn't been up to his old gurning standards of late. Click? What was that about? A remote that controls your life? Much too serious. The former SNL star is back to his old absurd ways in this comedy, which sees him play an elite Israeli soldier relocating to New York to become, er, a hairdresser. Expect slapstick and a lot of homous. Out now.
Step Brothers
Will Ferrell is re-united with his Talladega Nights co-star, John C. Reilly, in a tale about two losers who move in together when their parents re-marry. They're in their forties, but the humour is infantile - what Ferrell does best - and brilliant, with some of the best slapstick moments you'll ever see Better than Anchorman? Maybe... It's out on August 29th.
Pineapple Express
If all that's too infantile for you, Pineapple Express should have you chuckling. Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow ruled the box office roost last year with the crude but intelligent Knocked Up and Superbad last year, and the pair look set to do it again with this comedy thriller. Rogen plays a stoner who accidentally gets caught up in a drug war when he witnesses a murder. Grim sounding, but you know the pair will turn it on its head, and you with laughter. It's out on September 12th.
