Science Shows The Best Way To Eat Pizza

Science Shows The Best Way To Eat Pizza

Science Shows The Best Way To Eat Pizza
10 October 2014

Let's face it, you can eat pizza pretty much any way and it will be brilliant. But science has proved its worth once again by suggesting that there is a premium pizza position for optimum devouring.

YouTube channel It's Okay To Be Smart suggests that we use a theorem suggested by the 19th Century mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss to analyse the basic pizza shape. Despite its apparent circular shape, it begins flat and thus has zero Gaussian curvature; Gauss's theorem states that one direction of the slice must always be flat, thus the best direction to be flat is one pointing towards your mouth - achieved by folding it. Increased curvature in one direction (the U-shape of your slice) will result in increase stiffness in another - useful to keep the pizza rigid. They explain it better than us though.

If that wasn't enough, the rest of the video explores more pizza science, including the best value size to buy and the really-quite-impressive use of a pizza to measure the speed of light.

Really, if you have pizza, what else do you need? Nothing, that's what.
