Greggs takes on the cronut

In what has been described as 'the most exciting thing since the birth of the sausage roll', Greggs bakery are launching their own version of a 'cronut' - the Greggsnut.

The Greggs version of the croissant-doughnut hybrid is set to come in two cardio-clogging flavours: caramel & pecan and summer berry & crème. For the princely sum of £1, British customers will finally be able to sample the baked delicacy that has taken New York by storm.

When the Dominique Ansel bakery launched the original cronut, crodough hysteria swept its way across the internet. Reports emerged of queue scuffles as customers became restless waiting to sample the 'laminated' masterpiece, resulting in Dominique Ansel introducing a two-Cronut-per-person limit on purchases.

Greggs are hoping for similar success with their take on the classic, having spent two months developing their own layered technique to create a doughnut shaped pastry. The Greggsnut is on sale from today until 1st October in a limited number of London shops - we'll be taking the Heidi Klum route and flying ours in by private jet later today.
