300 Danes Wrongly Told They Were Billionaires

Life can be cruel. Just ask Turd Collar, a man born in Ireland in 1821.

But this isn't about poor old Turd, this is about 300 Danes who were told they had won their country's lottery.

All 300 received an email from the head of the Danish state-run lottery company Danske Spil congratulating them on a gob-smacking win in the billions.

For 90 minutes they were euphoric, contemplating a worry-free life of erm, gold-plated bacon, platinum pastries and other things that the Danes love.

Alas, it was not to be. Lottery spokesman Thomas Roersig told AFP “Three hundred of our lottery players who won the lottery, the Keno, received a message saying they had won a sum in the billions. And they never won that amount … We are of course very sorry. We have now written to them to inform them of the sum that they really won”.

One of the winners, Flemming Dahl received an email informing him he had won 28 billion kroner (some £3billion, almost $5billion), the online daily Nordjyske.dk reported.

“My heart leapt and I started thinking of all the things I was going to do with the money: take my family on holiday, buy a new house, a new car,” he said.

Roersig said some of the gamers “were disappointed, others were furious and I can fully understand that, but most of them took it well.”

Liar.
