So, as we're all being courted - sometimes surreptitiously, sometimes not - to give our vote to one of the three main parties in the oncoming general election, we decided it was time to find out more about these men asking for our allegiance. And what better way to do this by subjecting them to a test - a test of manliness. a test of brawn, a test of boarhunting skills.

Gordon Brown
Middle name: Gordon is actually Gordon's middle name, his first name really being James
MAN FACTOR: 8/10 for having a solid middle name. 2/10 for not admitting it.
Love of raw steak: It seems Brown's favourite food is something called Rumbledethumps; a Scottish mixture or potatoes, swede and cabbge. Oh, and he also likes biscuits with a "bit of chocolate".
MAN FACTOR: It's no raw meat, let's be honest. A wholesome but dull 5/10
Love of fast cars: Brown has never learned to drive
MAN FACTOR: A pitiful zero
Love of women: Before marrying the lovely Sarah, two girlfriends are mentioned; journalist Sheena McDonald and Princess Margarita, daughter of King Michael of Romania
MAN FACTOR: Fair play for wooing some old Eastern European royalty - 8/10
Love of football: Brown supports Raith Rovers, his home town team
MAN FACTOR: Keeping it real in the Scottish lowlands - 9/10
FINAL TOTAL out of 50: 27
