The UK's Best Pubs Revealed

The UK's Best Pubs Revealed

17 February 2015

Stop what you're doing. It's time to go to Ham, Gloucestershire, and have a pint.

Beer-drinkers the world over will be descending on the sleepy rural village in the coming months, now that its comfy local boozer has been crowned Britain's best pub.

The Campaign For Real Ale has named The Salutation as its National Pub Of The Year.

Judges score pubs on their atmosphere, quality of service, value and importance to their local community, with extra points gained for the quality of their real ale, cider and perry. It seems that what helped the Salutation stand out from around 50,000 entrants was its atmosphere, with one CAMRA judge comparing the experience to, "being invited into a private house as a friend."

Known by locals as "the sally", The Salutation was taken over by husband and wife duo Peter and Claire Tiley two years ago. Amazingly, it's the first pub either of them has ever run.

If rural Gloucestershire is too far for you to go to wet your whistle, CAMRA has handily published a full list of its top 16 best British pubs. See if any of these are near you...
