Dexter The Cake

Dexter has killed and cut up a number of people throughout the gory TV drama, now it's time to turn the tables with this life-sized cake replica of the serial killer.

Food artist Annabel de Vetten has created (and sliced up) the 5ft 10" cake to mark the final series of the psychological TV thriller.

Inspired by the name of Dexter's boat - A Slice of Life - the cake took over 100 hours to make; weighed over 105 kilograms and was the same height as Michael C. Hall the actor who played Dexter for the past eight years.

In this gruesome set of images Annabel replicates Dexter's kill technique by plunging a knife into the chest and dissects Dexter piece by piece in the 'kill room', created especially for the cutting of the cake.

In the creation of the edible masterpiece 24 eggs, 25 kilograms of flour, 16 kilograms of buttercream, 18 kilograms of sugar, 20 kilograms of sugar paste and marzipan and 20 blood oranges were used.

Several hours were spent adding fine attention to detail such as 'dressing' the cake in clothes to give an authentic appearance; Dexter's stubble and even covering the kitchen in plastic sheeting.

Miss Cakehead, real name Emma Thomas, the creative behind the concept said: "The cake is so life-like that cutting into it was a deeply unpleasant experience and I did have to close my eyes.

"Four years ago I realised that Dexter's boat was called A Slice of Life and became determined to create a Dexter cake with one of the Eat Your Heart Out food artists.

"I have to admit though, I wish we could have kept the cake whole as its always sad destroying a work of art, although I would have had no idea where I would have kept him!"

The fate of the Dexter cake was cut up, eaten and enjoyed but the fate of Dexter has yet to be revealed.

The final season starts on Sunday 7th July at 9pm on FOX.
