Okay, gentrification in South London has officially got out of hand.
Now even McDonald’s has got in on the act, faux graffiti-tagging its Brixton branch in a tragic bid to appear young and hip.
Pretty much a Fortune 500 company’s equivalent of a midlife crisis (someone might want to check old Ronald isn’t sporting a leather jacket and pacing up and down forecourts looking for a red sports car), what makes this refurbishment extra McTasteless is that it has taken place in a socially deprived borough where many businesses are plagued by the threat of real vandalism.
And though we're sure the marketing people may say it was intended to celebrate the rich cultural feel of an urbanised area, we suspect the skatepark-cum-squatter’s flat appeal might actually have the opposite effect.
But don't take our word for it. Twitter was awash with people mocking the new look, including esteemed food critic Jay Rayner, who called it "a truly offensive idea".
What’s more, if you pay close attention to the choice of lettering seen on a photo Rayner posted (above), you may find yourself suspecting the people doodling may have been of the same opinion as the journalist. BS indeed.
They can’t even blame the Hamburgler for this one.
