Your ‘Binge-Watching’ Obsession Could Kill You (Say Scientists)

Just when you thought you’d mastered the excuse that binge watching 12 back-to-back episodes of Breaking Bad wasn’t really hurting anyone, some smart arse at the European Society of Cardiology has dropped some seriously bad news.

Not only can spending your time in the midst of a TV marathon increase your likelihood of depression, it could cause pulmonary embolisms.

Or, in simple terms: A blood clot that clogs up the arteries in your lungs.

According to research, those of us that watch TV for five hours straight are more likely to develop the clots than those of us that break out telly sessions into shorter time spells.

Toru Shirakawa who headed up the study for the Japanese government said the findings were conclusive:

“We have known about the relationship between prolonged sitting and pulmonary embolism for some time but this is the first time a direct link between prolonged television watching and fatal pulmonary embolism has been shown.”
