US Remake Of Black Mirror In Discussions

Stop us if you've heard this one before: a plucky British-made TV series heads to the bustling schedules and bright infomercials of the USA, hoping to make it lucky. After a promising start, the Network Suits turn up with a truck load of money and before you know it a stars-and-stripes remake is being kicked to the curb by a mob of snarky critics.

Following in the footsteps of The Office, Broadchurch and - you can fill in the rest - word comes from Variety that Black Mirror is edging towards a US remake.

Charlie Brooker's sci-fi anthology has been picking up a head of steam in the states after it launched on Netflix US in December - Oscar Isaac even telling us of its growing popularity in our recent interview.

Speaking at a recent keynote session, the new heads of Endemol Shine North America - the US branch of the production company who look after Black Mirror in the UK - Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin confirmed that "there is a plan" to create an American version of the series.

While no details were given on what form the remake would take, Corwin praised Brooker and producer Annabel Jones for having "really touched on something", stating that "we need more".

It's not the first time Black Mirror has attracted admirers from the States: in 2013, Robert Downey Jr's production company beat George Clooney to optioning the rights to an episode from the first series, The Entire History Of You.

Would the sci-fi experience benefit from a fat US budget, adding to remade success stories like The Office? Or will Endemol water down the harsh social commentary of Brooker's show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
