Under The Dome is Cancelled After Three Seasons

under-the-dome.jpg

It's always been a bone of contention with Stephen King fans but it looks like they're going to be quietly happy with this news.

CBS has announced that the current season of Under The Dome, which aired in the UK on Channel 5, will be the show's last, with the final episode going out on 10 September.

Having witnessed many excellent TV and movie adaptations of Stephen King novels over the years, Under The Dome was far more divisive, with many fans unhappy that the show deviated so much from the book, which featured a Maine town trapped underneath a mysterious force field. However, the first season of 2013 was an unexpected summer hit, forcing producers to work out how to continue the story from its original limited series when CBS ordered more.

King himself was involved in the show too - executive producing the first season and writing the opening episode of the second. Nonetheless, viewing figures have dropped - from 11.2m for the first season, to 7.2m for season two, falling to 4.9m for the current season so far.

Nina Tassler, chairman of CBS Entertainment, “Two years ago, Under the Dome broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world. Dome’s event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of Extant and Zoo. We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up.”
