This serial killer thriller is going to be everyone's next Netflix obsession
02 August 2017

Looks like Netflix have another golden nugget up their sleeve. Good ole’ Netflix, with their good TV shows and that, banging them out, one after another, being all ‘watchable’ and everything – what are they like?

So, this new one, what’s that all about? Well, it’s about serial killers, and you better believe that murders do well on Netflix – just look at Making A Murderer, The Keepers, Amanda Knox, Narcos, Luther, Dexter, that other one about murders – killing is big business.

Which is presumably why David Fincher has jumped on the Netflix murder bandwagon (he was previously only on the standard murder bandwagon, stopping off to give us Se7en, Zodiac et al) for his latest creation. The show will be called Mindhunter, and is based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, about a special agent in the FBI and his interviews with notorious killers, including Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, and Ed Gein. The real big dogs of murder, basically.

The show, executive produced by Fincher and Charlize Theron, will star Jonathan Groff (Glee) and Anna Torv (Fringe) as well as a motley crew of assorted wrong’uns, one of which I really don’t like the look of – when you watch the trailer you’ll know which one I mean. Look:

Couldn’t quite relax for the duration of that, actually. Not the most soothing of trailers. Mainly because of that big bastard – he’s coming up in my nightmares tonight, big time.

Netflix have summed up the show as: two FBI agents who “set out on a sinister investigative odyssey to discover the brutal answers”. So they’re keeping things under wraps and un-spoilery – I like it. Either way, it looks hella creepy.

It’s coming to Netflix on 13 October. “Which is a Friday.

So just watching it will probably kill you. Great.
