Given that this is just one of an ever-expanding roll-call of characters, there are few amongst us who don't need a little help recalling just who everyone is in Game of Thrones.

Enter stage-right, wielding a dragon-forged blade, the hero of the hour: Empire magazine has put together a visual guide to the show's principal players.

From relationships to mortal status (you almost forget how many people George R R Martin has seen off), it's worth close study before season six rolls around later next year.

Now, if someone could create one for the original books, that would be smashing...
