Superb trailer for Simpsons / Akira mashup

No, The Simpsons isn't stepping up its game for the next Treehouse of Horror episode.

This twisted, disturbed vision of animation is Bartkira - a meticulous mashup of America's favourite dysfunctional family and one of the most influential Japanese anime films of all time, Akira.

An artistic project several years in the making, Bartkira is based on an inspired comic adaptation of Ryan Humphrey, that manages to rewrite the Japanese story of a broken Neo-Tokyo future with functioning Springfield references. This grainy VHS-quality trailer only furthers the parody: "In partnership with Chicken Tonight, Butterfinger, and CC Lemon, the early 90s execs of Fox and Toho made an animated short. An attempt to appeal to American consumers without having to spend a lot of money. Until a changing of the guard decided the kids needed more Poochie and it was lost...until today."

To see more of the unsettling, superb artwork from the project, head over to Bartkira.com, where you can buy posters and help the project support its charitable causes.
