Hilarious Trailer For Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: Season 2

Having spawned such gritty televisual masterpieces such as The Sopranos and The Wire, HBO knows a thing or two about creating drama.

Though we feel the channel may have gone too far with its new promo for the second season of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, a show which proved a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic last year and one they’re clearly keen to sex up…

The visuals are bold. The voiceover is booming. And the polite host? He’s been given a pony on which he can fight crime – and that’s when he’s not nursing a small baby and a raft of multinational children, which presumably will fit into the show after wryly setting the world to rights as he did so well last time around.

Okay, so it’s just a gag, with Oliver playing it all down in the most British way possible, claiming it’ll be really more “Season 2 - more of basically the same” when the next series lands on 8 February on HBO in the US and a few days later on Sky Atlantic over here.

We're sold.
