Aldi has made a brilliant spoof of the John Lewis ad

Budget supermarket has its own man on the moon

Aldi has made a brilliant spoof of the John Lewis ad

We're starting to think that the advertising teams of a thousand companies are now just sitting around all year waiting for John Lewis to unveil their festive advert before bothering to even begin thinking about their Christmas promotions.

Aldi are the latest people to use the Man On The Moon advert as their inspiration, cheekily spoofing the original with a doppelgänger old man who takes a look at an expensive John Lewis telescope before plumping for a cheaper Aldi one.

Even better, when he takes a peek through it, he sees none other than the gin-loving Jean, star of a previous popular advert (below), who has been called back into action.

Jonathan Neale, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi commented: “Jean quickly became a national treasure for her love of our Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin when she first appeared on screens in 2011. We’re confident our customers will be excited by her return this Christmas. Our latest advert highlights Aldi’s ongoing commitment to offering high quality products at unbeatable prices that shoppers will be over the moon with.”

Oh Jonathan, you just couldn't resist that 'over the moon' gag could you?
