Train your brain to fight negative feelings in even the toughest of times

We all know that feeling – things are tough and we want to give up. But it’s all in the mind, says Simone Moro, a global athlete for The North Face. And he should know, considering when we interviewed him he was at base camp on Nanga Parbat (called ‘Killer Mountain’ due to climbers who die from the elements and Taliban fighters), trying to be the first to scale the peak in winter. Yes, seriously.

Don’t be overwhelmed by big tasks

“You have to look for the fun and joy and not at the chance of failure. It’s much better to stay calm, concentrate and be ready to enjoy every second of the task at hand. During an expedition, the best moment isn’t just reaching the summit.”

Relish challenges

“Taking on a challenge is the exploration part of every person. Some hide this part and are satisfied with normality. Life is like a movie, you can be an actor, a protagonist or just make an appearance.”

Silence inner doubts

“To do this, you need to be motivated. The doubts can come before or at the beginning of the task but after that, there is no room for them.”

Fight the fear

“People are afraid to explore their personal limits. To be mentally strong, you have to believe in yourself and eradicate fear.”
