This Neymar VR demo could be the future of how we watch sport

nike2.png

Neymar is 23-years-old. Which makes him younger than every single member of the ShortList.com team, and - if our reader surveys are anything to go by - younger than the majority of you reading this.

So we can all forget about playing for our favoured club, our national side, or any team higher than the top division of the local five-a-side circuit.

However, that doesn't mean you can't get a glimpse, a tantalising taste of what it's like to take to the grand footballing stage.

The following VR experience, titled "The Neymar Effect" is nothing more than a gimmick (a good one) from Nike Football: plug your compatible smartphone into a Google Cardboard goggle set up, crank the quality up to 4K and let you mouth hang agape in disbelief as you look around a stadium, flicking a football over players you've only seen on the telly.

But this is just the tip of a potential future for football coverage: imagine 4K camera equipment small and unobtrusive enough to be warn throughout a football game - either supplying live footage or providing post-match highlights more detailed than anything currently available. Strap the same equipment to an F1 cars or a driver's helmet, and it will change the way we watch the sport.

Right now, it's a PR stunt. But it could be the future of sport.
