Thierry Henry has been named as an assistant manager for Belgium

The world of football never ceases to amaze us, but even we weren't really prepared for this one.

And if Romelu Lukaku wasn't already surprised enough by the appointment of Roberto Martinez as manager, he'll have to have a quick lie down when he hears that former Arsenal legend - and proud Frenchman - Thierry Henry has been named as an assistant manager of Belgium.

Henry played 123 games for France, netting 51 goals to become their record scorer.

He retired in 2014 to become a pundit with Sky Sports News, receiving rather mixed reviews - although we'll forever be indebted to him for this moment of magic:

Henry has never held a coaching role before, while Martinez was sacked as Everton manager in May this year.

Martinez stated, "Thierry is an important figure. He will bring something different. He agreed right away to join us."

He will work alongside Graeme Jones, who served with Martinez at Swansea, Wigan and Everton.

Whatever they're smoking at the Belgium FA, we'll have some of it.
