ShortList heads to Germany to test the latest incarnation of the adiZero f50, which now monitors your performance

See image below:

1. Adidas enlisted Lionel Messi to aid with the f50’s redesign, and the Argentinian advised that the area around the ankle collar should be firmer in order to support the heel. He even personally put the design through its paces.

2. The Sprintskin — a single layer designed to improve a player’s touch — has been enhanced so it’s easier to control the ball in wet, slippery conditions.

3. With more stability at the back, the material at the front has been made even more flexible. During a visit to adidas HQ near Nuremberg, we were told that this will help to protect against metatarsal injuries.

4. The two front studs have been shortened at a horizontal angle in an attempt to improve the wearer’s balance.

5. The miCoach Speed Cell records key statistics — distance covered, average and maximum speed, and more — from a game or training session, before wirelessly transmitting them to your chosen computer device.

Go Head to Head with Messi

You can track your performance via graphs, pie charts and even your own avatar, which gets visibly stronger as your own real-life attributes improve. This avatar can also be used against friends in an online game, and figures can also be shared via Facebook, Twitter and email. If that’s not enough, Messi will be posting his results online, so you can measure yourself against Barcelona’s diminutive genius when the boot is launched in 15 November.

Cost: £200 for the boots or £245 with the chip and bundle pack for your computer
