Grime star releases new non-album track

The ShortListen: Stormzy (no. 300)
26 April 2016

Who? Stormzy

What’s the story? 22-year-old grime MC Stormzy stands on the verge of greatness. Several years of consistently superb tracks, guest spots and freestyles have led to the anticipation for his debut album reaching fever pitch; even Adele gave him a shout out at one of her O2 Arena shows a few weeks ago, and heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has walked out to the ring to the strains of his his massive underground hit Shut Up (which even entered the running for last year's Christmas number one). Last year's Standard was possibly his most complete record yet, the One Take Freestyle earlier this year kept up the momentum, and now he's released Scary, a non-album track that stokes the flames even more. It's another foreboding, minimal effort, with Carmina Burana choir soundtracking an aggressive, captivating rap. Come on - let's have that full-length sooner rather than later.
