The ShortListen: Royce Wood Junior (no. 185)

Who? Royce Wood Junior

What’s the story: Now this is what you want on a Monday morning - a nice, epic remix to get your teeth into and get lost in for six minutes. London-based producer and singer Royce Wood Junior has been steadily building a following for his electronica-tinged R&B, soul and funk, originally playing guitar in Jamie Woon's live band. You can hear his latest track Honeydripper here, but we're delighted to be premiering the Special Request remix of Midnight here on The ShortListen, which sees Royce's vocals given the dub echo treatment, drifting in and out of a breakbeat-style backing which ebbs and flows with a fantastic blissed-out, DJ Shadow-style breakdown section. Forget your tinny laptop speakers, get this on the headphones or a decent system and soak it up.

For fans of: UNKLE, DJ Shadow, Propellerheads

In three words: Dark, dense remix

Listen to all of them as they become available, on this Spotify Playlist
