The ShortListen: Powers (no. 177)

Who? Powers

What’s the story? Having a bad start to the week? Feeling those Monday blues really kicking in? Then get this on the stereo and turn it up. Powers first came to our attention with their guest spot on The Knocks' summer anthem Classic, with Crista Ru's vocals carrying the whole thing along. Now they've unveiled the lead track, Hot, from their new EP, Legendary, and it's a glorious slice of laidback tropical house - Mike Del Rio takes the verses with some Peter Gabriel-style vocals, while Crista Ru unleashes the sunshine in the euphoric chorus. It's simple, but effective and someone needs to knock up a fifteen minute extended version sooner rather than later.

For fans of: St Lucia, The Knocks, Sneaky Sound System

In three words: Tropical synthy heaven
