The ShortListen: Lake Komo (no. 287)

Who? Lake Komo

What’s the story? We were big fans of Manchester-based four piece Lake Komo's last single Tides, placing it in our top 50 songs of 2015. Now they're back for the new year with the similarly big-hearted sound of Resurrect (shame they didn't get this out in time for Easter actually, but never mind chaps), which we're delighted to be premiering the video of on The ShortListen. It's more bombastic than their previous work, with singer Jay's vocals more confident than ever, as the tracks builds through a gentle rhodes-led verse into an urgent bridge, and a Coldplay-esque wordless chorus. It's warm and intimate, yet spirited and stadium-ready, in that way that the much-missed Doves perfected. Take them to your hearts.

For fans of: Doves, Coldplay, Keane

In three words: Big-hearted indie pop
