The ShortListen: Grace Lightman (no. 309)

Kate Bush-esque excellence from London newcomer

The ShortListen: Grace Lightman (no. 309)
09 May 2016

Who? Grace Lightman

What’s the story? Well this is just the thing for a hazy summer's day. Faultless is London singer Grace Lightman's follow-up to October debut track Vapour Trails, and it's a pretty apt description of the track: a woozy concoction of synth, strings and unexpected chord progressions. Vocally, she's 90 per cent Kate Bush and 10 per cent Lana Del Rey, but musically there's inspirations and influences from all over: a big debt to the likes of Goldfrapp, even touches of the jazzier elements of Radiohead's output. This is a rich delight of a song.

For fans of: Kate Bush, Radiohead, Lana Del Rey

In three words: Woozy electro ballad
