The ShortListen: Coasts (no. 188)

A new electro-indie anthem from the Bristol band

The ShortListen: Coasts (no. 188)
29 October 2015

Who? Coasts

What’s the story: While we all know that the real big story in the music world right now is the long-awaited return of His Majesty Phil Collins, it's still important to focus on those new acts making their way to the top - and today's big climber is Bristol five-piece Coasts. They've spent the last few years building and building over the course of a series of singles and EPs, notably the Soundcloud smash Oceans, leading to the band selling out London's Shepherd's Bush Empire this week; no mean feat for a band without an album. Of course, that's about to change, with their debut longplayer pencilled for January, and this new track You is ready to whet (or should it be wet, given their name) the appetite of fans; it's an anthemic electronica-tinged indie blast with a huge chorus that manages the impressive feat of sounding like a song Coldplay and Fall Out Boy would produce in the unlikely scenario of them ever collaborating. Now, if they could just write a song as Against All Odds, that debut album will head straight to number one - it's in your court boys.

For fans of: Saint Raymond, The 1975, Coldplay

In three words: Electro indie anthem
