New Stone Roses single: first listen review

StoneRoses.jpg

It's what the world was waiting for - and The Stone Roses announced this morning that their first new music since 1994's Second Coming would be arriving.

They then announced that the song would receive its first play on Annie Mac's Radio 1 show.

So is the third coming, in a recorded sense, worth the hype?

We listened in, and here's our first listen review - although we'll remember not to judge too early - after all, the press was none too impressive at first for their debut album...

First up: it's called All For One. Potential for being used in a future Three Muskateers reboot.

-It's been produced by highly-regarded hitmaker Paul Epworth - this bodes well

-JOHN SQUIRE IS BACK WITH A JANGLY RIFF

-"All for one and one for all, if we all join hands we'll make a wall"

-This is very much first album territory, very sixties stuff. Lovely drum shuffle groove from Reni

-Ian Brown is singing with a more 'pop' style than he has in years

-Mani's bassline is pretty cool as well, nicely walking around

-It's actually very reminiscent of their non-first album early stuff - Mersey Paradise and the like

"All for one and one for all, if we all join hands we'll make a wall". This is being repeated a lot. Good line though.

-NICE BIT OF FLANGE EFFECT THERE LADS

-John Squire just couldn't resist a solo could he? Quite a short one though, compared to the Second Coming days

-This is ludicrously uplifting and joyous. Real summer anthem potential here

-And we're out - must be under three minutes (EDIT: it's actually 3:36 - still, it flies by doesn't it?)

That's a really cool song. Not trying too hard. Doing its Stone Roses thing.

It definitely wasn't rubbish, and that in itself is a relief.

WELL DONE GUYS

We'll get a link up to listen to it here as soon as we find one

EDIT: Here we go - listen NOW on Spotify and YouTube below, and you can buy on iTunes here
