Gorillaz return after 6 years with spectacular Trump-baiting track

The last time Gorillaz released an album was back in 2011 (The Fall), when we were gifted with an entire tracklist recorded on just an iPad.

The cartoon-fronted band announced in 2014 that they were working on a new release, one we’re yet to see.

But if there’s anything that will light a fire under your ass, it’s the rise of Donald Trump and everything he stands for.

And so on the eve of his inauguration, Gorillaz have dropped a new track called Hallelujah Money featuring 2015 Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine.

The song explores the rumination on power, big business, and money. The video features Clementine crooning infront of a garish Trump Tower-esque background.

“In these dark times, we all need someone to look up to,” said animated guitarist Murdoc via a release. “Me. That’s why I’m giving you this new Gorillaz song, a lightning bolt of truth in a black night. You’re welcome. Now piss on! The new album’s not gonna write itself.”

Hallelujah Money is a dark reminder of where we’re at, encapsulating how we’ll probably all feel on Saturday. The lyrics ask:

“How will we know / When the morning comes / We are still humans / How will we know?”

“Don’t worry my friend / If this be the end, then so shall it be.”

It’s all about positivity, guys...

Gorillaz new album is due to come out later this year.
