Bill Murray stars in what could be the most upbeat music video of all time

Bill Murray wants to banish your sadness forever

Bill Murray stars in what could be the most upbeat music video of all time
09 March 2017

A new song with Bill Murray in it is quite possibly the most irrepressibly joyful song with Bill Murray in it of all time.

This is no mean feat, by the way, because just last year you’ll recall that Bill Murray, Bill Freaking Murray, sang The Bare Necessities in the Jon Favreau-directed live-action remake of The Jungle Book. But not even Bill Murray’s Baloo was this feel-good.

The song, in which the Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, Ghostbusters and every Wes Anderson movie ever actor sings lead vocals, is called ‘Happy Street’. It’s a collaborative effort between Murray and former David Letterman sidekick Paul Shaffer, whose band, Paul Shaffer and The World’s Most Dangerous Band, will release a self-titled album later this month.

For the video Bill Murray has been turned into a lanky cartoon character, whose cheerful presence alone is enough to recruit bank robbers and graffiti artists to his spontaneous street parade.

Once you’ve rejuvenated your soul and drained your mind of all cynicism forever, hit the replay button and look out for the subtle nods to the enigmatic movie star’s back catalogue. You’ll easily spot the Life Aquatic reference, but others are easy to miss.
