A teenager built his own rapping AI bot using Kanye West lyrics

Genuinely better than some human rappers

A teenager built his own rapping AI bot using Kanye West lyrics

As we all know, robots will one day take over the world; they’ll crash through our living room windows, use terrifying spinning drill fingers to bore into our brains, and suck out all our knowledge to become even more intelligent, then they’ll grind up our blood-stained carcasses into a rouge mulch that they’ll use to power their batteries. This is what will happen, that’s a fact.

But here’s one thing nobody thought about: they’re going to take over our airwaves, too.

You know the other day when Ed Sheeran held nine places in the top ten? That’s not going to happen in the future, because the chart will be full of sick tunes from the Terminator, Robocop, R2-D2 and Alpha-5. How do I know this? Well, because a teenager in West Virginia has created an artificially intelligent rapping bot.

It started as a dare and only took him a week to make (he’s clearly an evil genius, someone stop him), and it’s still learning. To train it, he gave it about 6,000 Kanye West lyrics and sent it on its merry way. Barret told Quartz: “Originally it just rearranged existing rap lyrics, but now it can actually write word-by-word,” which is obviously entirely terrifying in almost every possible way.

I think we’ve got at least a month before it becomes self-aware and starts drinking our brains, though. At least that’s what I’m going for off the strength of his first song:

Yeah good one mate! Such a wack rapper.

Wait, no, I take it back. PLEASE DON’T DRILL MY SKULL.
