On March 1, Jackman bids goodbye to Wolverine with Logan, the character’s grittiest and best adventure yet. In all of cinema, there is only one actor who has played the same superhero nine times. Nine times! Since 2000’s X-Men, Hugh Jackman has inhabited the grubby vest of Wolverine, aka Logan, turning one of the most popular comic book characters in history into a movie icon. As we say farewell to a great hero we look at some of his finest moments.
Wolverine vs. Mystique – X-Men (2000)
The first movie established Wolverine as a near unstoppable brawler. The film’s best fight put him up against blue shape-shifter Mystique, who in one fan-delighting moment turns into Wolverine. Wolverine locked in battle with himself. You could write a thesis on that.
Wolverine vs. Lady Deathstrike – X2 (2003)
Lady Deathstrike is the female equivalent of Wolverine, with the same adamantium skeleton and the same razor-sharp claws. As such, their massive scrap is an evenly matched fight to the death. We would argue this is the best showdown of the X-Men series.
Fastball Special - X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
The spectacular opening of the third X-Men movie sees the core team duking it out with Sentinels, giant fighty robots, in The Danger Room. It features the only cinematic instance of the Fastball Special, a beloved special move from the comics whereby big metal dude Colossus wangs Wolverine at baddies. It’s awesome.
Wolverine vs. Helicopter – X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
Every hero should, at some point, do battle with a heavily armed helicopter. Wolverine’s absolutely does not disappoint.

“You know the drill” – Logan (2017)
He may be older and more grizzled in Logan, but Wolverine still has the power to shut down anyone who crosses his path. When he’s confronted by a group of men threatening his friend, he shows that a real warrior doesn’t always need to draw blood (but he spills a lot of it later).
