Will Smith to take on Wild Bunch remake

will smith pic.jpg

After he was close to taking the lead in Django Unchained, it seems as if Will Smith has a western-themed itch that still needs a good scratch.

He's reportedly considering a role in a remake of The Wild Bunch, originally developed with Tony Scott in the director's chair. He'd also take on producer duties.

The original 1969 classic, directed by Sam Peckinpah, starred William Holden and Ernest Borgnine and was controversial at the time for its extreme violence.

The new version would be a contemporary take, focusing on a DEA agent assembling a team to take on a Mexican drug lord. The script was written by LA Confidential's Brian Helgeland but it's believed that Smith will bring on a new writer, if the project goes ahead.

Will Smith will next be seen starring opposite his son Jaden in After Earth.
