Thrilling trailer for Black Sea

There's a special place in our hearts for the submarine thriller. Quite possibly the perfect location for increasing suspense, we simultaneously cower and marvel at the screen.

But they're a rarity. The Hunt For Red October, Crimson Tide, Das Boot, U-571 and the criminally underrated Below are too few and far between for our liking.

But hope is on the horizon, or rather at the bottom of the sea. The trailer for Black Sea has just arrived and it looks every bit as claustrophobic and tense as we'd want from the subgenre. Jude Law leads an impressive cast of character actors, including Ben Mendelsohn, Scoot McNairy and Michael Smiley, as a submarine captain who hatches a plan to uncover a U-Boat full of gold.

But putting a crew of desperate men together with the possibility of earning millions in a submarine leads to rather nasty things...

Black Sea hits cinemas 5 December
